Dear CAPA Members and Friends:

We are happy to announce CAPA’s 2022 virtual annual meeting to be held in February 19 (Saturday), 2022. In the meeting we will elect our leadership and executive committee members. We also invited Dr. Annie Benifield, President of League of Women Voters Houston, as the keynote speaker to tell us about our voting rights and how to actively participate in the election process. The agenda are as follows:

  • 10:00 – 10:15 Open chat and greetings.
  • 10:15 – 11:00 Keynote speech by Dr. Annie Benifield (bio attached)
  • 11:00 – 11:30 CAPA 2021 activity and finance report
  • 11:30 – 11:45 Voting results announcement
  • 11:45 – 12:00 Conclusions


    Dr. ANNIE JOHNSON BENIFIELD, President, League of Women Voters-Houston. Degrees: Ph. D in Political Science, University of New Orleans, 1997; M.A. in Political Science, Clark Atlanta University, 1981; B.A. in History, Alabama A. & M. University, 1978. Experience: Retired Chair of Social Sciences Department, Lone Star College-Tomball, Retired Professor of Political Science at Lone Star College-Tomball for 23 years. 30 years of teaching Political Science courses. Rho Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi 2020 Citizen of the Year. Lone Star College-Tomball 2019 Faculty Excellence Award. Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Month, 2021 Advanced Equity Award HOWL Award, Lone Star College-Tomball, 2020 William Hooper Council Service Award Houston Alumni AAMU Chapter Expertise: Work with LWV-HA on voter registration projects (Naturalization Ceremonies) for 20 plus years. Secretary, LWV-H 2015- 2017. LWV-H Board Member 2012-2019. League of Women Voters- Houston; The Helen Hunter Award, June 2019 for advancing the mission of the LWV-H by bringing great credit to the to the League and benefit to the community. Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA) 2007-2013. Served in all executive officer positions from Treasurer through Past President of TCCTA, statewide professional organization including being responsive and informed about legislative issues and education advocacy, for more than 20 plus years. Community: Member of Houston Alumni Chapter of Alabama A. & M. University. Secretary, Houston AAMU Alumni Chapter (2015-2017) and Chair, AAMU Houston Alumni Scholarship Committee (2005-present). Member, Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she serves in the Usher Ministry. Member of Houston Metropolitan Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
